Last week I took up a challenge to spend 7 days without complaining. In order to succeed, I had to understand the meaning of autosuggestion which is “an influencing of one’s own attitudes, behavior, or physical condition by mental processes other than conscious thought.” In order words, no negative or positive thoughts can have access to the subconscious mind without the help of the theory of autosuggestion. We sometimes forget that we have control over our thoughts and actions.
I didn’t allow myself to complain at all. If I were to drift in that direction I quickly tried to see the situation in a different light. For exemple, last week I sat at a restaurant waiting for my friend who was 30 minutes late. Nothing sets me off more than dealing with people who don’t respect my time. But instead of getting all angry and complaining about it, I tried to be grateful for having a friend who was willing to go out with me and spend time with me. I gently voiced my frustration and she explained her reasons for being late. Everything was forgotten and we had a nice time.
I had to train my thoughts to focus on the good things in my life and let go of things that were out of my control. I noticed a huge change in my attitude. I had more energy and I was more pleasant to be around.
If we want to accomplish great things in life, we have to stay positive. I am not saying that you shouldn’t allow yourself to be angry and frustrated. God gave us these emotions for a reason. But we shouldn’t let them control us. Allow yourself time to be upset and sad but don’t stay there too long. Because the truth is:
“If you think you are beaten, you are, if you think you dare not, you don’t. If you like to win, but you think you can’t, it is almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose you’re lost, for out of the world we find, success begins with a fellow’s will-it’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are, you’ve got to think high to rise, you’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man, but soon or late the man who wins is the man who thinks He can!”-Napoleon Hill
