The Power Of Positive Thinking

Last week I took up a challenge to spend 7 days without complaining. In order to succeed, I had to understand the meaning of autosuggestion which is “an influencing of one’s own attitudes, behavior, or physical condition by mental processes other than conscious thought.” In order words, no negative or positive thoughts can have access to the subconscious mind without the help of the theory of autosuggestion. We sometimes forget that we have control over our thoughts and actions.brigitte-tohm-351795-unsplash

I didn’t allow myself to complain at all. If I were to drift in that direction I quickly tried to see the situation in a different light. For exemple, last week I sat at a restaurant waiting for my friend who was 30 minutes late. Nothing sets me off more than dealing with people who don’t respect my time. But instead of getting all angry and complaining about it, I tried to be grateful for having a friend who was willing to go out with me and spend time with me. I gently voiced my frustration and she explained her reasons for being late. Everything was forgotten and we had a nice time.

I had to train my thoughts to focus on the good things in my life and let go of things that were out of my control. I noticed a huge change in my attitude. I had more energy and I was more pleasant to be around. 20180701_212257

If we want to accomplish great things in life, we have to stay positive. I am not saying that you shouldn’t allow yourself to be angry and frustrated. God gave us these emotions for a reason. But we shouldn’t let them control us.  Allow yourself time to be upset and sad but don’t stay there too long. Because the truth is:

“If you think you are beaten, you are, if you think you dare not, you don’t. If you like to win, but you think you can’t, it is almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose you’re lost, for out of the world we find, success begins with a fellow’s will-it’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are, you’ve got to think high to rise, you’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man, but soon or late the man who wins is the man who thinks He can!”-Napoleon Hill

A World Citizen

What does it mean to be  a world citizen? For me it is sitting at a table full of people from all of the world and engaging in a conversation that challenges my thinking.  What I am trying to say is that perhaps being a world citizen can not be defined as one thing perhaps it is much bigger than that. My take on it is that a world citizen is someone that understands and appreciates  other cultures. It is also someone that has made it her life goal to be continuously learning about the world and its people. It is that mindset that helps us to go and explore. Life is not meant to be lived in one corner of the world.

I left home a year a go after graduation and moved to a different country. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Living in a different country taught me so much about myself-my ignorance really. I am proud to say, I’ve gained the ability to work independently, interact with other people who hold different interests, perspectives. Now, I see life in a different light. Traveling has a way of giving us the chance to reinvent ourselves. Join me in being a world citizen

Have you ever noticed that it’s easy to find something to complain about then to be grateful for? We don’t always realize that when we complain, we attract bad things in our lives. Do you think you could go 7 days without complaining? Not in your head or out loud. This is my challenge for this week and I am hoping for a significant change in my attitude and the way I view life. I hope you can join me. Be on the look out for my follow up post. Have a wonderful start to your week!
